DKM Sudoku Desktop

A new version of DKM Sudoku Desktop in now available. The code for this release is now based on the Flash version (rather than Microsoft's .NET) and so it looks and feels the same as the online version. This also means it will now run on all versions of Windows (from XP up) as well as Mac OS X.
It does however mean that the skins feature from the previous release is no longer available.

  1. I've been amazed and somewhat demoralized by some of the high scores posted in the DKM Sudoku Challenge. My sense is that people posting the high scores may be "gaming" the system using a Sudoku Solver and a "cut and paste" technique. To prove my point, I used the technique and doubled my best score. I was very uncomfortable cheating the system and wonder whether you have a way of preventing it?

  2. I agree and I find it so disappointing that people feel they need to cheat so that they can be on top of the leaderboard. I did try one technique before (making sure at each step that the answer was logical - ie no other possibles for that cell) but got abuse so dropped it. There is something else I can try which I think I will give a go but it is very hard to prove with total certainty that the person is cheating. One common way of cheating is to stop (or slow down) the clock on the PC (there is software to do this).

  3. Thanks for the quick response. Whatever you can do to highlight the cheaters would be greatly appreciated. While the competitive aspect of Sudoku is entertaining it's not my primary motivation for doing the puzzles. My enjoyment stems from completing increasingly more difficult puzzles coupled with improving my rating over time. Your blog has mentioned providing more individual data for players that were willing to pay a modest fee. I agree with that approach plus it might mitigate the negative impact of the cheaters.
